The Firm
Founded in 1999 by Mr. Ron
Newlan and Dr. Harry West, Global Solutions Network, Inc.,
(GSN), is a certified HUBZone firm. HUBZone stands for Historically
Underutilized Business Zone and is a fairly new initiative
of the Small Business Administration designed to provide certain
advantages to firms that meet the established criteria.
A HUBZone is a geographic
land region of our Nation where unemployment is usually high
or wages paid are usually low. Some HUBZones have both high
unemployment and low salaries and there are more than 8,000
HUBZones nationally. In order to be certified by the SBA under
this program the firm must have its principal office in a
HUBZone and at least 35% of its employees must live in a HUBZone.
Mr. Ron Newlan has over
23 years of contracting expertise and a proven successful
track record on more than 2 billion dollars of Federal contracts
with no defaults or blemishes on his record. Ron Newlan co-founded
and ran Resource Consultants, Inc. (RCI) for nearly twenty
years. RCI is one of the largest technical service firms serving
the Federal Government today. When Mr. Newlan retired from
RCI in 1998, RCI was ranked by Washington Technology as the
54th largest Federal Government contractor! Knowing the Government
services business as he does, after retiring from RCI, Mr.
Newlan decided to spend the rest of his working years giving
something back to the Nation that allowed him to succeed and
prosper with his previous firm. In 1999 Mr. Newlan got involve
with the HUBZone program as a means to bring good jobs with
good pay to economically depressed areas of our Nation. Aside
from starting Global Solutions Network, Inc., in early 2000
Mr. Newlan also founded a non-profit nationwide trade association
of HUBZone contractors known as the HUBZone Contractors National
Council. Serving as Chairman and President of this Council
has given him the opportunity to become a national spokesman
for the HUBZone Program throughout our local community, the
Executive Branch of our Government and Congress. Mr. Newlan
earned his BS degree at the U.S. Naval Academy and his MPA
degree at The George Washington University.
Dr. Harry West retired from
the U.S. Army as the senior careerist in the entire Army.
Prior to affiliating with GSN, Dr. West formed TECHNOLOGIES,
Inc., a Virginia small business corporation established to
provide new technology applications and consulting services
to business and government enterprises. He retired from the
Federal Senior Executive Service in April 1988 after 26 years
of service in financial management, defense business management,
weapon systems cost and economic analyses, non-appropriated
and appropriated fund management, and manpower management
positions. He currently consults to several large prime contracting
firms; serves as a Director, International Institute of Business
Technologies; and is a member of the Association of the United
States Army Advisory Board of Directors. Dr. West earned his
MS and his DPA from The George Washington University. He is
also a graduate of the Industrial College of the Armed Forces.
Both founders of GSN bring
extensive Federal Government contracting experience to the
table. The two have now come together and are building Global
one step at a time. These are the roots of GSN. A professional
services firm that has at its realm, a visionary leaders with
over 23 years of Federal Government contracting expertise,
and with the management skills and tenacity to get the job
done right!
